Friends of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (FODSA) have raised over £1,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance at a recent event.
The organisation, which supports and promotes the work of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, raised the funds through at the World Duty Free sale held at the airport over three days.
FODSA was established in February 2005 following on from the FLY Finningley campaign, with the aim to promote Doncaster Sheffield Airport through encouraging its preservation, development and improvement.
The group also help to inform public opinion by providing advice and information about the airport, the airlines that use it and services available from it.
Paul Maddison, from FODSA, said: “We are delighted to add to the £6,000 donation we made to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance earlier this year.
“At the sale we also held a raffle for a ‘Jofli Bear’ which was donated to us for assisting the Jofli Bear company when they came to Doncaster Sheffield Airport earlier in the year.
“This second fundraising amount of £1100 will help this incredibly worthwhile charity and we are delighted to be able to support them and the invaluable service they provide.
“All the members of FODSA have a real enthusiasm for aviation so the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was an obvious choice when we were looking for a charity to fundraise for.”
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to five million people across Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Helicopter flies seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motor ways, but also rural and isolated locations.
Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “FODSA are a remarkable group of people and the work that they do is invaluable. This is a further fantastic achievement by them to have raised so much for this charity.”
Sam Silverwood, Yorkshire Air Ambulance Regional Fundraiser for South Yorkshire, said: “It may surprise many people that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is a Charity that relies solely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire.

“To keep both of our helicopters in the air we need to raise £12,000 every day. This is equivalent to £4.4 million per year, so the support from businesses and individuals is invaluable and greatly appreciated by everyone here at the YAA.
“We’d like to say a huge thanks to FODSA for raising such a great amount and choosing to support YAA.”
